Playing traditional music is
tremendous fun for all. It is instantly accessible even in your first
lesson as a complete beginner - but don't take my word for it - read what others
have said by clicking on the links on the left - or better still, come along and
try for yourself!
I mainly teach tunes
from Ireland, England, and Scotland
by ear in the traditional method. Group lessons are based on this but the
music/tab/fingering is available in the beginners group and the earlier
intermediate group.
Some individual pupils, especially children also want to learn to read manuscript and for
those who already can there is a wealth of all types of music we can explore.
I started
teaching about nine years ago when a friend asked me to help her children learn
some fiddle tunes.
The following year I
joined the Hibernia Centre as the fiddle teacher in the days when we were
overwhelmed if
five fiddlers
turned up. Nowadays we regularly have more than 40 musicians on a Saturday
morning and are recognised as the area's foremost Centre for Irish traditional
music.
Seven years ago I joined the Old
Fox Band - a popular barn dance band that has been established for over 25
years - and now spend most Saturday nights fiddling or calling the moves whilst the night is danced away!
I also play in different musical line-ups with various musicians.
